Harrison Ford will be unveiling some of the plans for upcoming Star Wars attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in a TV special set to air Feb. 21.
Tonight at the Dolby theater in Hollywood filming will continue as Tori Kelly will duet with Kermit the Frog, Jessie J will perform “When You Wish Upon a Star”, the Los Angeles Philharmonic will perform The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Kelsea Ballerini will perform “Part of Your World” along side ‘Dance Moms’ Maddie Ziegler.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by music and artistic director Gustavo Dudamel, will join the celebration, performing The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Walt Disney’s acclaimed animated film Fantasia.
The special will celebrate 60 years of Disneyland as the park continues to celebrate the Diamond Anniversary. Portions of the program have been filmed at iconic locations at Disneyland Park along Mainstreet USA and Sleeping Beauty Castle as well as Cars Land in Disney California Adventure.
The new lands will shuttle guests to a galaxy far far away as they explore a trading port and watch their favorite Star Wars characters come to life.
The parks will have two main attractions, one allowing visitors to board a millennium falcon and another incorporating the new film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As Iger says, “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
I for one can’t wait to head on over to the Mos Eisley Cantina to grab a bite and a drink and Iger says, “You’d expect to find a cantina, and there will be one.”
This is just part of the ever-expanding partnership between Disney and Lucasfilm dating back to 1987 when the first Star Tours attraction opened. Now that Lucasfilm is part of the Disney brand we can only expect the force to grow even stronger in the coming years.
