Construction walls and construction will be a major attraction when it comes to Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. In order for all the construction to start taking place, Walt Disney World will be shutting down several attractions.
The Streets of America; Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure; Lights, Motor, Action! Extreme Stunt Show; Studio Catering Co; and the Monsters Inc. meet and greet are just some of the things that will be closing to allow for construction to begin at the park.
A former icon of MGM/Hollywood Studios, the “Earful Tower” will also be coming down according to reports. No date has been given for the removal of the tower, which for most guests can no longer be seen easily in the park since the backlot tour closed a few years ago.
Most of all of the closures will take place on April 2 so that expansion and construction can begin on Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land.
Star Wars Land Expansion
The construction of the park is part of the re-imagining and expansion at the park where they will be introducing Star Wars Land and a Toy Story Land. Disney CEO, Bob Iger, announced at the D23 conference in 2015 that it will be, “our largest single-themed land expansion ever.” The land will occupy fourteen acres at Hollywood Studios in The Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
The new lands will shuttle guests to a galaxy far, far away as they explore a trading port and watch their favorite Star Wars characters come to life.
The parks will have two main attractions, one allowing visitors to board a millennium falcon and another incorporating the new film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As Iger says, “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
Toy Story Land Expansion
The expansion will add 11 acres of fun, transporting guests to one of their favorite Pixar worlds. Toy Story land will take guests into the adventurous outdoor world of Andy’s backyard. It’s going to be as though you have been shrunken down to the size of a toy when entering the area that will be full of oversized toys such as building blocks and game pieces.
