Something Rotten a Musical Comedy Smash at Vista’s Moonlight Theater

Moonlight Amphitheater presents the musical comedy smash Something Rotten, currently running through August 6 at the Moonlight Theater in Vista, California. Bring your friends, and anyone else looking to have a great time – this raucous musical comedy promises to be an entertaining evening.

The production is a hilarious musical comedy about the Bottom brothers, Nick (Cameron Bond-Sczempka) and Nigel (Bryan Banville), who are desperate to write a hit play in the 1590s. To make matters worse, they have competition from the world’s most famous playwright, William Shakespeare (David Burnham). With the help of a soothsayer (Randall Hickman), they are told that the future of theater lies in singing, dancing, and acting all at the same time. Thus, the first musical is born!

The cast of Something Rotten includes some new actors to Moonlight as well as returning veterans including crowd favorite David Burnham and Randall Hickman. Hickman in the role of Nostradamus again is a stand-out with his comedic timing and immense stage presence, he’ll have you laughing every second he is on stage.

Broadway star Burnham is back at the Moonlight after his highly acclaimed role as Quasimodo in 2018’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. In his role as William Shakespeare, you get to see him stretch his legs in a role that is way out there and so different from what Southern California audiences have seen him perform.

Bond-Sczemka and Banville who we last saw in Memphis have great chemistry as brothers. The rest of the supporting cast complements the show. Moonlight is never absent great talent and audiences are once again given the best of the best.

I’m a big lover of dance and Bill Burns choreographs some great numbers from “A Musical” to “Something Rotten.” The staging and scenic design by Paul Black were simple but effective. Something that enhanced this show to the next level was the clever lighting from Jennifer Edwards.

With its high-energy dance numbers and catchy tunes, Something Rotten! is sure to have you laughing all night long.
